Neurological basis of Yoga therapy

Now, we know there are specific areas of the brain responsible for regulating the functions that are defective or deficient in children with ASD. The function of the frontal lobe is to regulate consciousness, initiate activity in response to stimulus control our emotional and expressive language assign meaning to words we choose and memory for habits and motor activities and perform problem-solving functions. Based on many years’ observation and experience with children diagnosed with ASD, we hypothesized that these children may have specific deficits in frontal lobe functioning. With this same logic, we are working to directly improve the function of the brain more than with the conventional model of focusing only on problem itself.

Both Datta Methodology and IYT were developed to capitalize on the positive effects of yoga and to directly affect frontal lobe efficiency, there by increasing physical and cognitive functioning and improving therapeutic outcomes in children with ASD.
